Who is Tony Pauline?

  • I found this on line and I know the weak homer writers on packer.com love this guy.  This mus be why.  I attempted to find his prior grades to see if he has ever been correct.  Searching him on google for 2014 grades led to a porn site that scared meaway.  Does anyone have any info on this guy or his prior draft grades/predictions?

  • I read his review. He's at Draft Analyst. He loved the Packers entire draft with the exception of the guard they drafted. He's like the myriad of other draft gurus but he has an affection for the Packers. I couldn't find a biography on him, but I seem to remember he had a scouting background for some team.

    Tony Pauline is the publisher of DraftInsider.net and is widely considered one of the most knowledgeable draft experts in the business. (Eagles phan site's words, not mine.)

    Pauline's web site is actually hosted on something called " Muck Rack " - which seems to fit quite well, oddly enough, with the whole sex web site theme thingy - even though it isn't one.

    Pauline has been oneof Walter Football's resident analysts for years.
    As some of you might be aware, Walter Football is just about the LAST web site HYATT™ would use for draft analysis - because they have been abysmally bad at it for a number of years - and Pauline has been a major reason WHY they are so bad at it.

    Without saying too much to denigrate the work of a man who obviously is quite invested in draft analysis and does some studious work on it - pick yer poisons carefully.

  • I was completely unaware of this guy until this post and his 'sometimes' mentions on packer.com, which admittedly has reason to be anti journalism...but this is so over the top on its face I can not understand how he can be working outside of mad magazine.

    I have seen links with various player previews but not a ranking of team draft grade outside of this year. I would really love to his some of his previous grades and ranking on more than a player by player basis.

  • There is a bias that readers have, with regards to their teams' draft picks. The vast majority of readers, are homers, that want to hear how great the pics are. So this is just another hack, pandering to his readers. Providing no objectivity, just feeding the homers.

    You just described, (with the exception of a couple of old fossils like Costas & Album), the entire interweebz & cable TV cast of modern so-called "sports reporters".

    I use Walter Football as a starting point basis of my personal draft evaluations "pre-draft".

    I love their site, there are actually a lot of decent analysis working with them, and I've heard a few on sports radio this year before the draft. One of our local hosts here in Broncos country said this year (after interviewing a guy from Walter Football) that he doesn't mention them much, yet he lives on their site for months in the offseason, doing exactly what I do, kind of looking at their pool of players, and not necessarily their player rankings.

    This draft will be interesting to watch unfold in GB. I really would love to think Elliot Wolf had more to do with this draft, I just wish I knew that was true. The way Elliot was acting in the draft room, and explaining a lot of the picks in the media tells me he had a stronger input this year, but perhaps thats just me wanting that to be true. We'll see.
